The Union government has recently cleared the Narsapur-Machilipatnam rail line in Tamil Nadu entailing an investment of ₹1,541 crore. In this connection, the Reconnaissance Engineering Traffic Survey starting from Narsapuram to Machilipatnam via Bantumilli Broad Guage Railway line has recently been completed. The proposed new Broad Guage Railway line length is 74 km from Narsapur to Machilipatnam and the project will be taken up on fast tracked basis, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) South Central Railway (SCR) has already in a letter to Kokkiligadda Kodandaramaiah, Convenor, Machilipatnam Coastal Abhivruddhi Karyacharan Committee, has been informed on this score. It is worth mentioning here that the officer also pitched for the National Highway from Digamarru to Repalle via Narsapur, Bantumilli, Machilipatnam, Repalle and the Union government has also sanctioned the same and after the commissioning of this highway, the distance from Chennai to Kolkata would be reduced by 70 KMs, said official sources.
