Centre clears ₹1,000-cr for Nagaland airport

Union minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh, informed that the Centre has approved a proposal of ₹1,000 crore for setting up an airport at Ciethu, which is about 50 km from the state capital, Kohima. An appropriate site was identified by the state government and a technical feasibility report prepared by the AAI was cleared for the all-weather airport. The minister, under the directions of the Prime Minister, said that all the development projects of NE have been put on fast-track to complete them within the stipulated timeline. He also conveyed the Centre's desire for equitable development of Nagaland and find a lasting end to insurgency. The state CM informed DoNER that the total estimated cost for the airport could be around ₹6,000 crore and has requested that a part could be funded by DoNER ministry or North-Eastern Council (NEC).
