Adding to the road infrastructure of the state, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs recently approved the rehabilitation and upgrade of the existing Birpur-Bihpur section of National Highway 106 from 106km to 136km two-lane roads with paved shoulders at an investment of ₹1,478.40 crore with a construction period of three years. In addition, the construction of a 6.930-km-long four-lane bridge at Phulaut in Madhepura district of Bihar has also been cleared by the committee, said an official statement, claiming that there is a 10-km-long missing link between Phulaut and Bihpur in Bhagalpur district on NH-106 that falls in the catchment area of Kosi River. After the construction of the new four-lane bridge across the Kosi under this project, the distance between Phulaut and Bihpur shall be reduced to 12km. It has also indicated that the construction of the new bridge will fill the existing 30-km gap between Udakishanganj and Bihpur of National Highway 106 in Bihar by providing direct connectivity between Nepal/north Bihar/East-West corridor (passing through NH-57) and south Bihar/Jharkhand/Golden Quadrilateral (passing through NH-2), besides ensuring the full utilization of National Highway 31, said official sources.
