Cabinet Approves ₹6,811 Cr Ropeway Projects in Uttarakhand

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved two ropeway projects in Uttarakhand under the Parvatmala Pariyojana, with a combined investment of ₹6,811.41 crore. The projects will be developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model under a public-private partnership.
The Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway will span 12.9 km and cost ₹4,081.28 crore. Designed for 1,800 passengers per hour per direction (PPHPD), it will accommodate 18,000 passengers daily, cutting travel time from 8-9 hours to just 36 minutes.
The Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib Ji ropeway will extend 12.4 km at a cost of ₹2,730.13 crore, with a capacity of 1,100 PPHPD and 11,000 passengers per day.
These projects aim to enhance last-mile connectivity, improve pilgrim convenience, and boost tourism and local employment in the region.
