BRO building tunnels on Sela Pass in Arunachal

The Border Roads Organisation in Arunachal Pradesh has decided to construct tunnels at Bomdila-Tawang road in the Sela Pass located at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, said 42 BRTF Commander, R S Rao, as he has also briefed the state government about the upcoming tunnel project and other road development work being under taken up by the BRO (Border Roads Organization) on the strategic Bomdila-Tawang road.

BRO in Arunachal Pradesh has proposed to construct two tunnels in terrains on a site, which is located at an altitude of 4,170 metres above sea level and often remains closed due to snowfall and inclement weather conditions. The BRO has proposed to build two tunnels along the road to bypass the high-altitude pass. These will not only shorten the distance between Bomdila and Tawang by nearly 10 km, but also reduce travel time between the two towns by an hour. The tunnels will also make the Bomdila-Tawang road an all-weather road.
