BMC has started construction of bridges and other road infra leftover works including resurfacing and de-silting jobs despite the lockdown in order to complete these projects before the on-set of monsoon season to avoid accidents, flooding and water-logging. Work has restarted on the Hancock bridge and the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road bridge with BMC workers and the workforce available in the city. Work has also resumed on the coastal road as BMC has only a month and a half left to complete the job. BMC restarted 112 works on roads, bridges and storm water drains (including desilting) with 2,500 laborers from the start of this week, Additional municipal commissioner P Velrasu said that most of the roads were dug up and were left incomplete due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Deputy municipal commissioner (infrastructure) Sanjay Darade informed that the civic body is strictly adhering to social distancing and other safety precautions and has provided masks and other safety equipment to the workers.
