BMC gets go-ahead for ₹3,800-cr road project

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has secured a go-ahead from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) authorities for the construction of ₹3,800-crore Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) in the Mumbai metropolitan city. The six-lane road will start near Film City and will go five meters under SGNP and end at Mulund, Director and Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF), SGNP, Anwar Ahmed, said that the project will not have any negative impact on the biodiversity of the park as the proposed tunnel will pass below SGNP. The 14km road, including approach road of 5.5 km and 4.7 km of tunnel road, will ensure smoother movement of traffic.
