The first metro project in Patna has got a boost with CM Nitish Kumar directing officials to start work as quickly as possible. The PM had laid the foundation stone for the much-awaited Patna metro rail project early this year in Begusarai district. The ₹13,000 crore metro project will be Bihar's first metro project and is set to be completed in five years. Earlier in October 9, 2018, the state Cabinet had approved the DPR and sent it for the Centre's approval. The project will have two rail corridors: the first corridor will stretch from Danapur to Mithapur and the second from Patna railway station to Dak Bungalow Chowk to the proposed ISBT. Danapur Cantt to Mithapur corridor will pass through the heart of the city and will connect densely populated areas such as Raza Bazar, Secretariat, High Court, Law University Railway Station. The Patna Junction to ISBT corridor will connect Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, Rajendra Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Transport Nagar and ISBT. The 16.94 km long Danapur to Mithapur corridor will be mostly underground (11.20 km) and partly elevated (5.48 km).
