Berger Paints & Dhunseri plans ₹500-cr expansion

Berger Paints and Kolkata-based Dhunseri Group are contemplating to invest ₹500 crore at Panagarh Industrial Park near the industrial township of Durgapur in West Bengal. The paints major is planning to invest around ₹100 crore to manufacture construction chemicals and putty. It is also setting up a packaging material unit primarily for food processing, cosmetics, personal care and pharmaceuticals industries at an estimated cost of ₹400 crore. The company has received in-principle approval for 22 acres of land from West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation. Dhunseri Ventures, formerly known as Dhunseri Petrochem, engaged in the petrochemicals business and it has sought 38 acres in the industrial park. The plant of Berger Paints would be its third unit in West Bengal as the other two are located at Shibpur in Howrah and Hooghly districts. It entered the construction chemicals segment in 2019 by acquiring STP Ltd. Dhunseri has its petrochemical plant at Haldia and the company is also seeking land in the industrial park for its downstream project.
