Nearly three years after Aurangabad city in Maharashtra was renamed, the Central Railway has officially renamed the Aurangabad railway station as “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station.” The station, which falls under the Nanded Division of South Central Railway, will now operate under the new station code ‘CPSN.’

The renaming honors Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, replacing the city’s former name, which was derived from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Originally opened in 1900 during the reign of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar station serves as a key rail link to one of Maharashtra’s most popular tourist destinations. The city is surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, and remains a vital gateway for travelers exploring the state’s rich cultural and historical heritag
