AUDA plans ₹664-cr flyovers and underpasses

Flyover and underpass project
The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority has decided to build nine flyovers, one underpass, and one pedestrian bridge on the ring road involving an investment of ₹664 crore. The Sindhu Bhavan flyover and the Shilaj flyover will be connected with the existing flyover on the Ahmedabad-Viramgam railway line. Both ends of the existing bridge will be elevated and connected with the new flyovers. Once completed, the bridge would be nearly 1.7-2km long. Since the area around the ring road is developing rapidly, traffic is growing at a rapid rate of about 25% a year as such the planned flyovers will make passage easy for those commuting on SP Ring Road. The officer said that during peak periods, 150 vehicles on average cross Sindhu Bhavan Crossroads and Shilaj Crossroads in an hour, often resulting in jams. The two flyovers have been planned at the project cost of ₹79 crore. The agency is currently preparing the final detailed project report and tenders will be floated for the construction of flyovers and underpass, which has been planned at Ognaj Crossroads and another flyover at Tapovan Crossroads. Six other flyovers will come up at Bakrol junction, Hathijan junction, Ramol Adani junction, Vastral-Panjrapole junction, Nikol junction, and Dastan junction. The pedestrian bridge will be built near Vastral Metro station and the Asian Development Bank has committed to fund these projects.
