In order to build matching infrastructure in the north eastern state bordering China, the Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu has recently laid foundation stone for the smart city at IGJHS school playground and also announced an investment of Rs.1534 crore for carrying out infrastructure development work across the state. The CM explained that the core of infrastructure development of Itanagar as smart city would include the adequate electricity, water supply, sanitation and solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, robust IT connectivity and safety and security of citizens. Itanagar smart city, which the center selected as one of the nine new cities in the smart city mission, had prior to this also declared Pasighat along with 97 other smart cities in the first round of the smart city race in 2016. Pasighat, with a population of around 25,000, was the only town from Arunachal Pradesh to figure in the list of the third round and this is the result of the team effort of the local community, administration and political leadership of the state.
