Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Shri Pema Khandu, inaugurated the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine in Changlang district, marking the state’s first commercial coal mining project. The mine, with reserves of 1.5 crore tonnes, officially commenced operations, positioning Arunachal Pradesh on India’s coal and energy map.

The inauguration included a Bhumi Pujan ceremony and a “100-tree plantation initiative” drive at the project site. The mining lease was handed over, and CPPL’s tools and machinery were flagged off, signaling the start of full-scale operations.

Union Minister Reddy called the launch “a symbol of new hope and a significant step toward energy security and regional development in the North East.” Chief Minister Khandu highlighted the mine’s role in boosting local employment, industrial growth, and state revenue, while paving the way for future investments. The project is set to strengthen India’s energy self-reliance and support the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.
