AMRC unveils integrated metro rail corridor

Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC)
In its newest scheme of things, Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC), is currently re-planning the Vijayawada metro and considering integrating the entire metro corridor up to Gannavaram and also connect the same with the airport. The new proposal will further increase the project investment costing twice along stretches that will be built underground. As per the current estimate, the proposed elevated light metro will cost Rs.200 crore per km. The state will seek the Centre‘s assistance after the DPR is ready alongside it is also contemplating developing the project under PPP model, AMRC managing director Ramakrishna Reddy said. Sources claimed that restrictions on elevated structures near the airport increased the possibility of developing the last few km of the metro line underground. The proposal would be along the lines of the Delhi Airport Metro Express (DAME) which is integrated with Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. It will have all modern facilities on a par with international metros and that the 22-km-long DAME is a combination of underground and elevated metro lines, he added.
