AMC finalizes ₹850-cr Phase-2 of riverfront project
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has finalized the riverfront Phase-2 project involving an investment of ₹850 crore. The civic body has finalized the design for the mega project and its implementation will directly connect the ₹800-crore Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium at Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Motera to Sabarmati Riverfront. AUDA is scouting for an agency to conduct the feasibility of holding the Olympic Games in Ahmedabad and also AMC-run SRFDCL is developing a 5.8 km road that runs parallel to the river. The design for the same has also been approved by the state government. In this special case, the road from the rear portion of Motera stadium will connect directly to the riverfront. In the first phase, AMC had developed an 11.5-km stretch on the east and west banks of the river. Now, in the second phase, the riverfront will be extended up to Indira Bridge and there is a plan to develop a 5.8-km stretch in the east and 5.2 km stretch in the west and that will increase the length of Sabarmati Riverfront to 34 km on both sides. In Phase-1, the road leading up to Dashama temple near Subhash Bridge had been developed and now the second phase will see a stretch connecting Dashama temple to Indira Bridge. The design for the development of the stretch has received the final nod. The Phase-2 design will reduce the distance from the riverfront to the world's largest stadium. Deputy Municipal Commissioner R K Mehta informed that during cricket matches, it will ease traffic bottlenecks often witnessed on the Sabarmati Powerhouse route.
