ADB agrees to fund ₹30,000-cr rapid rail project

Asian Development Bank
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given in-principle nod for financing the ₹30,000-crore rapid rail corridor between Delhi and Meerut. Discussions are also on with other multi-lateral funding agencies, including Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, for co-financing these large urban transport projects including for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects, as per ADB Director-General (South Asia) Hun Kim. In addition, the expansion of the Chennai and Bengaluru metro is also under consideration. ADB had earlier funded the Jaipur metro, expansion of the Mumbai metro, and the rapid rail project between Delhi and Meerut. The RRTS is a first-of-its-kind rail-based, high-speed regional transit system to be implemented in India. Once operational, it will be the fastest, most comfortable and safest mode of commuter transport in the NCR.
