AAI launches Rs.20,000 cr airport upgrades

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has recently planned to add 273 parking bays at 24 airports to help resolve the impending parking woes at the international airports. The capacity enhancement is part of AAI's Rs 20,000 crore infrastructure upgrade plan to be completed over four years. Domestic airline operators have projected a requirement for 303 additional overnight parking stands at 30 AAI airports in the next five years. Based on the plans shared by airlines, the AAI has decided to construct 273 aircraft parking bays for A321 type of aircraft at 24 of airports across the country, chairman, AAI, Guru Prasad Mohapatra said that about 82 parking bays will come up in the south, 70 in east and northeast, 61 in north and 60 in west. The AAI is also going to develop saturated airports and non-metro and regional airports along with modernization of Air Navigation Services over the next four years, he claimed.
