AAI Allocates Rs 3,490 Cr to Modernise Air Navigation Systems, Boost Airport Cyber Security

Air-Project
State-owned Airports Authority of India has earmarked Rs 3,490 crore for modernisation of air navigation infrastructure during 2026-2028, including Rs 1,532 crore for automation of air traffic management systems at airports. AAI, the country’s sole Air Navigation Service Provider, will use the funds to upgrade Communication, Navigation and Surveillance and Air Traffic Management infrastructure across multiple airports.

The remaining allocation will support upgradation of other CNS and ATM equipment to improve operational safety and reliability. The move follows recent disruptions caused by an air traffic control system glitch at Delhi airport, highlighting the need for robust infrastructure.

AAI has also issued a request for proposal to IIT Madras to strengthen cyber security of operational and information technology systems. The consultancy will cover development of cyber security architecture and assessment of manpower requirements, while the authority continues periodic recruitment to ensure adequate technical staff for safe and uninterrupted airport operations.
