Tadano Cranes Enabling Heavy Lifts With Smart Operations

Abhijeet-Narote
Abhijeet Narote, Head – Sales, Tadano Cranes India, elaborates on the company’s technical strengths, with intelligent controls and automation improving operational accuracy and safety, and reducing human dependency at jobsites.

India’s infrastructure expansion is driving lifting requirements across highways, refineries, renewable energy, metros, and industrial facilities. How is Tadano’s current product portfolio in India positioned to address these varied applications, particularly in the mobile and higher-capacity crane segments?

Tadano’s portfolio in India is now more diverse than ever. Tadano’s acquisition of Manitex International has further strengthened the European brands, making Tadano one of the largest specialized lifting companies globally as of 2025-26.

TMZX1000HRS

While our AC and GR series (All Terrain Crane and Rough Terrain Crane) handle heavy lifting for metros and refineries, the TM Series (Truck Loader Cranes) and Knuckle Boom Cranes (KBC) are the workhorses for "last-mile" infrastructure. The TM Series is the gold standard for electrification and pipe-laying, while the Knuckle Boom series offers the articulation required for tight urban maintenance. Complementing these are the European make and Tadano AWPs, which are essential for safe high-altitude work in industrial facilities and bridge inspections.

What key technical strengths differentiate Tadano’s cranes in the Indian market?

AA-12PC
Our competitive edge lies in Japanese precision meeting European versatility. Our Smart Chart is a system that maximizes the lifting capacity based on outrigger extension, which is critical on congested Indian sites.

Hello-Net & Hello-Data Link is our advanced telematics that provides real-time diagnostics, helping fleet managers optimize fuel consumption and minimize downtime. Our AML (Automatic Moment Limiter) is widely regarded as the most intuitive in the industry, preventing overloads before they occur.

The TM Series feature the Automatic Hook-In system and the Three-Point Support chassis protection, ensuring longevity of the carrier vehicle. Our Knuckle Boom Series offer the PowerTronic control system, providing industry-leading stability and lifting speed. The European Make Tadano AWPs are known for their compact footprints and "Up-and-Over" capabilities. They allow operators to reach difficult spots with surgical precision, backed by the highest global safety ratings.

The launch of the EVOLT (Electric RT Crane) was a landmark moment at Tadano. Our "Green Solutions" roadmap aims to reduce CO2 emissions from our products by 25% by 2030.

How do you see the AWP business evolving in India and what strategic role does it play in Tadano’s broader growth and diversification plans?

The AWP (Aerial Work Platform) segment is a vital pillar of our diversification. As Indian safety norms become more stringent, the shift from traditional scaffolding to AWPs is accelerating. We see AWPs as a growth engine for facility management and industrial maintenance. Strategically, this allows Tadano to engage with a broader customer base beyond heavy construction, providing a full spectrum of "access and lifting" solutions.

In a highly competitive market, how does Tadano justify its value proposition beyond acquisition price?

We encourage customers to look at Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the initial sticker price. Our cranes are known for high mechanical availability. Features like "Eco Mode" system significantly lower daily operational costs. What’s more, Tadano cranes traditionally command the highest resale value in the used equipment market, ensuring that the customer's capital is protected throughout the asset's lifecycle.
Technology integration in Tadano cranes is bringing greater efficiencies in operations, and their resale value is helping in protecting customers’ investment throughout the asset’s lifecycle – the reason why we encourage customers to evaluate the total cost of ownership rather than focusing only on the initial acquisition price.

How is Tadano aligning its products and support system to enhance fleet productivity for rental partners?

Tadano-AWP
With rental penetration rising, we focus on "Fleet Productivity." We support our rental partners by engineering machines that can handle the high utilization cycles typical of rental fleets. By expanding our parts’ warehouse we ensure “next day" availability. Conducting operator certification programs ensure that our partners' assets are handled safely, reducing accidental damage.

What is Tadano India’s strategy for localisation to enhance cost competitiveness and delivery responsiveness?

Our localisation strategy is focused on TM, KBC and AWP’s. By collaborating with local chassis manufacturers, we ensure that our cranes and platforms are perfectly balanced for Indian road conditions. This "body building" synergy reduces the total delivery time for a ready-to-use unit.

What high-end safety and digital features are influencing customer expectations across crane categories in India?

Safety is no longer optional. Indian customers are now demanding 360-degree camera systems, remote monitoring, and lift planning software as standard. Digitalization is moving from "tracking location" to "optimizing lift cycles." Tadano is leading this by integrating digital lift simulations that allow customers to plan complex lifts virtually before the crane even arrives on site.

What are your key expansion priorities in terms of capacity, technology, and market reach?

We anticipate a massive surge in demand for Truck-Mounted solutions. Our expansion priorities include strengthening our presence in the Power & Utilities sector with the TM & KBC series. We plan to introduce hybrid variants of the European platforms to cater to indoor industrial maintenance. We will be scaling our support ecosystem to ensure that every Knuckle Boom Crane and Tadano products in India is backed by the Tadano India Service Network, ensuring maximum asset life for our partners.
