Wirtgen Lays Foundation Stone for India Plant
Wirtgen Group, the German headquartered manufacturer of mobile road construction and mining equipment, with 4 brands WIRTGEN, VOGELE, HAMM & KLEEMANN has decided to start a greenfield manufacturing facility near Pune on a 25 Acre of land. On 2nd August 2009 the Wirtgen Group Chairman Mr. Stefan Wirtgen laid the foundation stone for the Group's 4th manufacturing plant outside Germany, at Bhandgaon near Pune on the Pune – Solapur road. The fourth manufacturing facility of Wirtgen will have an initial investment of Rs. 45 crore and is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2010. The initial plan of the company is to produce fast moving equipment like compactors and the product would have nearly 60% local content in the initial period.
According to Mr. Stefan Wirtgen, the Euro 1.5 billion Wirtgen group employ 4,500 people worldwide with 4 manufacturing plants in Germany and has three plants outside Germany, in the US, Brazil and China. It has also its own sales and service centres in 55 countries including India. Today in India requirement of roads is growing and the new manufacturing facility of Wirtgen is a milestone for company's future growth in this country.
