Greaves Cotton launches new concrete pumps
In its quest to expand further into area of the construction segment, Greaves Cotton has recently launched three models of Greaves S Valve stationary concrete pumps capable to pump 50-80 cubic metres of concrete an hour up to a height of 100 metres, for highrise buildings and distances of 400 metres for infrastructure projects such as tunnels, dams and bridges. In addition, it is also diversifying into selling road construction machines. The S Valve is a feature that can pump concrete at great pressure to greater heights, said Chief Executive Officer, Construction Equipment Business, R. Nandagopal, during the press meet program shortly after the launch of the concrete pumps at its factory in Gummidipoondi on the outskirts of Chennai. That apart, the construction equipment major has also entered into a marketing arrangement with Japan's Nikko to sell its hot mix asphalt equipment in India for the usage in road construction projects.
He further informed that India allows duty-free import of asphalt equipment which has a capacity of more than 150 tons an hour and the player will soon make the Japanese company's range available in the local market. The move also gives Greaves Cotton an opportunity to get into fabrication of local components. In fact, the launching of the S Valve range of concrete pumps gives the company access to a larger segment of the market as last year's demand for stationary concrete pumps is estimated at about 700 machines, with the S Valve-equipped machines accounting for over 70%. Greaves Cotton was then selling 'flat gate machines', which have a lower pumping capacity. In the changed scenario, its concrete pumps are getting more muscle and the player is confident of expanding its presence in the construction equipment market further.
