Hailstone: Jaw Crushers, Screens & Washing Solutions for C&D Industry
Sooraj Cherukat, DGM, Business Development, Hailstone Innovations throws light on the current scenario of C&D waste collection, processing, and utilization in the Indian construction industry, and the way forward.
In many Indian communities, the disposal of construction and demolition waste poses a serious environmental problem. The country generates 150 million tons of waste annually, accounting for 35–40% of the world's total C&D waste. Based on estimates from the Center for Science and Environment, India recycles barely 1% of the total waste generated from construction and demolition.
One of the biggest solid waste streams in the world is construction and demolition waste (C&D trash), which presents both potential and challenges for India. India's building sector is estimated to produce between 150 and 500 million tonnes of C&D garbage annually. This highlights a number of issues like incorrect mixing with biodegradable garbage, illegal dumping, and a shortage of disposal space.
Even with India's legislation and schemes in place for waste management of building and demolition debris, the execution on-site poses challenges. Hence, we see poor collection rates, little recycling, and an increase in open dumping of the waste. Plus, waste collection, transport, and recycling/utilization, is thought to require a large capital investment.
India needs to add about 700-900 million sq. meter of commercial and residential space every year by 2030. The need therefore for technology that facilitate waste reduction and material recycling is enormous in this setting.
Hailstone offers all kinds of crushing equipment for the C&D industry. As one of the pioneers in sand manufacturing, we have set up several sand and fine aggregate manufacturing plants. Our product range also includes mobile screens and other waste separation solutions, jaw crushers, impactors of various sizes, screens both on tracks and wheels, washing solutions, hydro cyclones, and thickeners.
Hailstone has completed several projects in sand manufacturing, specifically in coal and other OB projects. Our machines are working in MSW across some biomining sites where the sand is separated.
