Terex: Mobile Crushers, Screens & Shredders for C&D Waste Management

Terex India provides a range of equipment, including mobile crushers, screens, shredders, and washing systems, for efficient C&D waste management.

Deputy General Manager at Terex India
Ankit Awasthi, Deputy General Manager at Terex India, emphasizes the need for accurate reporting and accountability in managing C&D waste. He highlights the importance of clear guidelines in tenders and project reports to ensure proper collection and recycling of waste, as well as the critical role of contractors in managing waste responsibly.

The SBM Rule 2016 specifies that anyone generating more than 30 cubic meters of waste during construction must recycle it. This is a crucial step in ensuring accountability for construction and demolition waste. The responsibility lies with those carrying out the construction and demolition to manage and recycle the waste they generate.

Currently, all Class A and Class B cities, especially state capitals, have some form of C&D waste processing facilities. Additionally, municipal solid waste, of which roughly 35% consists of stones and construction debris, presents a quantity comparable to that of C&D waste. Contractors need to declare the amount of waste generated from demolition and subsequent construction to ensure proper accounting.

Another issue is the “scope of work” mentioned in the tenders and Detailed Project Reports (DPR) regarding collectible C&D waste. This allows for convenient declarations that can obscure the actual amount of waste collected. Furthermore, in municipal solid waste tenders, the bidding for good earth, C&D waste, and RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) materials should be accounted for more accurately. A realistic estimate of collection efficiency, perhaps in the range of 50% to 70%, should be factored into the calculations.

Terex India provides a range of equipmentPicking Station and Modular Waste Conveyor from Terex Recycling Systems (TRS) - Collards, UK

Equipment & Solutions

Terex offers a comprehensive range of equipment and solutions for the C&D waste management industry. They include mobile and modular crushers, screens, separators, shredders, and washing systems. Our machines, such as the Evoquip and Finlay crushers and screens, process and recycle construction and demolition waste into reusable aggregates. The Terex Ecotec line provides advanced shredding and trommel screening solutions for waste reduction and separation, while Terex Washing Systems have specialized equipment for washing and classifying materials, ensuring high-quality, clean aggregates.

Terex Recycling Systems (TRS) specialize in the design and build of modular recycling solutions, offering customizable and project-focused systems that serve as a 'one-stop shop' to meet diverse recycling needs. These products are engineered to maximize efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support sustainable waste management practices across project scales. Recognizing the growing demand for onsite C&D waste crushing, Terex has expanded its Indian product portfolio to include global mobile C&D crushing solutions, catering specifically to smaller C&D sites.

Project Examples

Terex has played a crucial role in numerous successful Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste management projects worldwide, providing equipment and solutions that make a significant impact. In India, our EvoQuip Impactor machine helped the densely populated urban area of Hyderabad convert C&D waste into reusable materials for local construction. In the UK, the Collard Group, a leading recycling and waste management company, chose a Terex Recycling Systems modular plant to enhance their processing capacity and recover higher-value, cleaner products, demonstrating Terex’s capability to deliver tailored solutions in complex environments.

Our Powerscreen Crusher and Screen plant were used in the UK to process and recycle demolition waste, reducing landfill use by over 90%. In North America, Terex Washing Systems plant efficiently washed and classified mixed C&D waste, producing clean aggregates, and significantly increasing recycling rates. These examples underscore Terex's commitment to providing effective, sustainable solutions for diverse C&D waste management challenges, globally.
