NCCBM: Improving Accuracy in Estimating C&D Waste Generation
P.N. Ojha, Joint Director & Head CDR, NCCBM, highlights the need for revised methods to estimate C&D waste generation, focusing on correlating estimates with cement consumption. He argues that current per capita-based estimates are flawed and advocates for more accurate measurement techniques.
Actually, all estimates of C&D waste generation to date have been based on per capita data, which is not accurate. The assumption that per capita generation alone can estimate C&D waste is flawed. Instead, estimates should be related to cement consumption in the area, as data on this is available. By correlating cement consumption with construction activities, which partially replace cement, a more accurate estimate can be derived. Therefore, current methods based solely on per capita generation are incorrect and need to be revised for better accuracy.
