Union Minister Inaugurates Redeveloped Railway Colony in Ludhiana

Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Shri Ravneet Singh, inaugurated the newly redeveloped Railway Colony at Civil Lines, near Fountain Chowk, Ludhiana.

The project, executed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), provides quality residential facilities for railway employees while enabling commercial development to generate revenue. The colony includes 35 modern railway quarters, a clubhouse, and recreational and sports amenities, replacing the old housing with upgraded infrastructure.

Of the total 25,257 sqm, 4,072 sqm has been allocated for residential use, while 21,185 sqm has been leased out for commercial development under an upfront lease premium model. Completed in just 15 months, the project demonstrates RLDA’s commitment to sustainable urban redevelopment and efficient land use.

Vice Chairman, RLDA, Shri Manoj Garg, said, “The redevelopment of the Ludhiana Railway Colony is a transformative initiative, seamlessly combining sustainable living with strategic urban development.

By providing modern, state-of-the-art housing facilities for railway employees while unlocking commercial potential in the area, it sets a benchmark for future projects. Several more such colonies are in the process of being redeveloped by RLDA, reflecting a significant step towards enhancing staff welfare, elevating residential standards, and optimizing railway land for revenue generation.”

Features of the Ludhiana Railway Colony Redevelopment:

  • The redevelopment project features 35 modern residential quarters.
  • A Club House to facilitate community and social activities.
  • Recreational amenities include a Children’s Park and a fully equipped Gymnasium.
  • Sports facilities feature a rooftop Badminton Court, Basketball Court.
  • CCTV Surveillance for security
  • Online Complaint Management System for repair and maintenance.
More colonies are in the pipeline to be delivered through RLDA in the coming time, including colonies at Bengaluru, Gorakhpur, Secunderabad, Guwahati, and Muzaffarpur, marking a march towards ensuring staff welfare through residential comfort.
