Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviewed the progress of the 2.79-km-long Sungal tunnel project on the Jammu–Poonch Highway, which is nearing completion and is expected to be ready later this year.

During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the construction site and was briefed by officials on excavation, structural work and associated road development activities. The project is being executed by the Border Roads Organisation.

The Sungal tunnel, connecting Akhnoor and Poonch, is part of the strategic “golden arc road,” a nearly 200-km corridor linking key border districts including Rajouri and Poonch.

It is the second of four tunnels planned along the highway to achieve a major construction milestone. The corridor also includes the Naushera, Kandi and Bhimber Gali tunnels, aimed at ensuring all-weather connectivity in the region.

Officials said the project will significantly improve connectivity, enhance mobility in border areas and support faster movement of goods and people across the region.
