Visakhapatnam-Bhogapuram beach corridor back on track
The Union transport ministry has initiated the process to build Visakhapatnam-Bhogapuram beach corridor with the detailed project report preparation going on in full swing. Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the State government has proposed to develop the existing beach road, connecting Vizag port container terminal to NH-16 at Bhogapuram via Rushikonda and Bheemili to a six-lane stretch. The ministry has directed NHAI to prepare the feasibility-cum-DPR report and the agency has appointed a consultant and based on the outcome of the study, a final decision will be taken soon. The State government has proposed to provide avenues for development of tourist attractions, logistic hubs, urban and social development projects, service industries along with the beach corridor project. The plan to provide an alternative road from Gangavaram Port to NH 16 via the Steel Plant is also under consideration.
