NHAI starts work on Rs 380-cr grade separator in Trichy
NHAI and Trichy Civic Body commence groundwork for grade separator on Trichy-Madurai national highway near Panjapur. The project aims to regulate vehicular movement and prevent traffic congestion, and comes in the wake of ongoing construction work for an integrated bus terminus (IBT) and truck terminal in the area. Commissioner R Vaithinathan and senior officials from NHAI's regional office and Trichy project implementation unit (PIU) conducted a site inspection for the project.
The proposed elevated corridor will have one arm each for Trichy and Madurai destinations, with multiple arms connecting the Trichy semi-ring road that links Panjapur with Mathur and Thayanur. The corridor will run for a 2-3 km stretch, and it is proposed to begin near the Koraiyar riverbank and end at Senkurichi village near Manikandam. The project, which involves the construction of multiple arms and service roads, is planned similar to the Koyambedu grade separator near Chennai Mofussil bus terminus (CMBT) and has a budget of Rs 380 crore, with completion expected to meet future requirements for the next 20 years.
