India has 43,856 km National Highways under construction: Gadkari

Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Lok Sabha that a total of 43,856 km of national highway projects are under construction in India, amounting to over Rs 9,60,103 crore. As of October 31, 2023, the country's total national highway length is 1,46,145 km, compared to 91,287 km as of March 31, 2014. The ongoing projects, numbering 1,609, are distributed across states and Union Territories. To expedite completion, the government has implemented measures such as thorough project preparation, streamlined land acquisition, simplified approval procedures, and more. Additionally, wayside amenities, including electric vehicle charging facilities, are being developed along national highways.
