Chennai Port-Maduravoyal corridor project expedited at ₹5,800-cr

road project
The Union transport ministry has fast tracked the construction work on the Chennai Port to Maduravoyal corridor, the 20.5 km long double-decker highway in Tamil Nadu involving an investment of ₹5,800 crore. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The project will serve as a dedicated freight corridor for Chennai-bound port traffic, which in turn will increase the handling capacity of Chennai Port by 48% and subsequently reducing the waiting time at the port by 6 hours.

The elevated stretch of 20.5 km will be developed in 4 sections and will start inside the Chennai Port and end after the Maduravoyal interchange. The project under the government’s flagship logistics Gati Shakti scheme will provide seamless multimodal connectivity to the port.
