The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has planned to build a 4 km-long double-lane bypass road to connect the Gangotri national highway in Uttarkashi district. Once the project is completed, the road will help bypass a treacherous 21-km stretch of the highway at Sukki Top, which has steep inclines, often causing inconvenience to vehicles on the route. The bypass will shorten the distance to Gangotri shrine by at least 10km and will facilitate the movement of military convoys towards the India-China border in Nelong Valley.
