BMC begins construction on ₹9,980-cr Mumbai Coastal Road Project Phase II

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun work on the second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), a 24.29-kilometer stretch connecting Versova to Dahisar, at a cost of ₹9,980 crore. The project, which is expected to be completed by November 2023, is being divided into four packages. The first package will consist of elevated roads, a basket bridge, and an arterial road built on stilts, and will connect the VBSL interchange in Versova to Lokhandwala. The second package will include a cable-stayed bridge and an elevated road connecting Lokhandwala with Mindspace in Goregaon. The third package will include an open-air ramp and an underground tunnel running between Malad and Charkop, and the fourth package will feature a cable-stayed bridge, a basket bridge, and an arterial road. The BMC reports that 70% of the work on the first phase of the MCRP, which runs from Nariman Point to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, has been completed.
