NHIDCL
The Centre has fast-tracked the process of preparing DPR for multiple tunnels including the Shinkun La Tunnel connecting Ladakh with Lahaul and Spiti district of HP. The work on the 13.5 km long tunnel connecting the two bordering states is in full swing. The tunnelling work has also been fast-tracked on the 14.15km tunnel beneath Zoji La to provide all-weather road connectivity via Srinagar-Leh highway to Ladakh from Manali. Additional director general border roads (ADGBR) Anil Kumar, who reviewed the work on Atal tunnel in Rohtang, informed that apart from making Manali-Sarchu-Leh highway an all-weather road, the BRO is also working on making Manali-Shinkula-Nimu highway double-lane. DPR for a tunnel under Baralacha pass is ready and the DPRs for tunnels below Lachulung-la pass and Taglang-la pass has been fast-tracked. The detailed project report works for the Shinkula tunnel to make Darcha-Shinkula Padum-Nimu stretch as all-weather is also being prepared. The development of road network in border areas of Himachal, Ladakh, J&K and Uttarakhand and the entire north-west regions is an important aspect. An alternate 279-km Darcha-Padum-Nimu route is being built to connect Himachal Pradesh with Ladakh.
