Mumbai Gets First Cable-Stayed Railway Over Bridge at Reay Road

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Mumbai’s first cable-stayed railway over bridge (RoB) at Reay Road, built at a cost of ₹266 crore. He also inaugurated another RoB at Titwala in Thane via video link during the event held in Byculla East.
The original Reay Road bridge, constructed in 1910, had completed its codal life and was causing inconvenience to commuters. It was demolished and rebuilt by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), also known as MahaRail, a joint venture of the Maharashtra government and the Ministry of Railways. The reconstruction was completed in record time without traffic disruptions.
The new six-lane, 385-metre-long cable-stayed RoB includes two ramps on each side of the railway line. It serves as a key east-west connector on Sant Savata Mali Marg, spanning the Harbour line between Reay Road and Dockyard Road stations, and passes beneath the Eastern Freeway.
