MoRTH Unveils ₹4,000cr Highway & Ropeway Projects in Himachal Pradesh
Among the projects inaugurated were the construction of Theog bypass on Devrighat-Premghat, a 196 m long bridge on Kalruhi section, and a 225 m long Dhaliyara bridge on National Highway 503 in Kangra district. Additionally, foundation stones were laid for various road construction projects, including a 4-lane missing link and cable stay bridge on National Highway 503A till Birhu-Lathiani, and a 2 km long bridge from Mohal in Kullu to the renowned Bijli Mahadev Temple.
Notable projects also include the construction of a ropeway and slope protection works to prevent landslides on the Parwanoo-Solan section of National Highway 22, and a 500 m long artificial tunnel on National Highway 5.
These developments are expected to significantly reduce travel distances, enhance connectivity to key areas such as Tauni Devi, Awahdevi, Sarkaghat, and Dharampur, and improve logistics and health services access to Darlaghat Cement Factory and AIIMS Bilaspur.
Moreover, the cable-stayed bridge on Govind Sagar Lake will shorten the distance from Birhu to Lathiani, Hamirpur to Una by 21 km, while the ropeway to the Bijli Mahadev pilgrimage site will drastically reduce travel time from 2 hours 30 minutes to about 7 minutes, benefiting around 36,000 pilgrims daily.
The slope protection and tunnel construction projects are aimed at ensuring safer and easier travel, addressing the issue of landslides in the region. Overall, these highway projects are set to improve transportation on challenging hilly roads.
