Making it the second cable-stayed bridge in the city after Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has recently directed to the contractor to complete the road as quickly as possible. Among other things, the agency has also directed road building agency to plant five mangrove trees for every one being destroyed during construction, as the land falls under CRZ-I. The plan for a bridge connecting Bhayandar and Naigaon (west) received sanction from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) recently. The MMRDA has estimated that the project will cost Rs.875 crore, and work on it will begin in October, and is expected to take four years for completion. Currently, the bridge over Versova creek — connecting Mumbai and the satellite town of Vasai-Virar - is the only link.
