West Bengal Fast-Tracks Land Acquisition for Chalsa-Naxalbari Railway Line

The railway line is part of the New Jalpaiguri-Siliguri-New Bongaigaon gauge conversion project and includes the 20-km Chalsa-Naxalbari section, which was originally sanctioned in FY2011-12. The project had remained stalled for several years due to delays in land acquisition.
According to the report, the project was put on hold in September 2019 because of a lack of cooperation from the then state government. Indian Railways revived the project in January 2026, along with five other pending railway projects, but progress remained slow until the latest decision on land acquisition.
