Indian Railways Approves Rs 299 Crore Visakhapatnam Coaching Yard Remodelling

Indian Railways
Indian Railways has approved the comprehensive remodelling of the Visakhapatnam Coaching Yard under South Coast Railway at a cost of Rs 299 crore to increase train handling capacity and improve passenger facilities.

Visakhapatnam Railway Station handles nearly 80,000 passengers and an average of 113 trains daily. The existing yard layout causes operational constraints, including train detention at approach signals and limited platform availability.

The project includes construction of six additional platforms and six railway lines, widening of the existing six platforms and installation of Electronic Interlocking (EI). Passenger facilities will also be upgraded with ramps, lifts and escalators.

A new entrance will be developed on the eastern side of the station, along with relocation of the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), surface parking and improved circulation facilities.

The remodelling is expected to reduce congestion and train detention, improve punctuality and platform availability, and enable Visakhapatnam station to handle additional trains and growing passenger traffic.
