Kerala Govt Approves Construction of ₹271Cr Fishing Harbour at Vizhinjam

The Kerala government has approved the construction of a new fishing harbour near Vizhinjam International Port at a cost of ₹271 crore. The project aims to improve facilities for fishermen and enhance the stability of the existing harbour entrance with a breakwater.
The harbour will be developed in two phases based on the final design submitted by the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS). The first phase, costing ₹146 crore, includes a 235-meter breakwater, a 500-meter fishery berth, and related infrastructure, to be executed by concessionaire AVPPL. The second phase, handled by the Harbour Engineering Department, involves constructing a 250-meter breakwater at a 45-degree angle for ₹125 crore.
