Shri Nitin Gadkari
Union minister for road transport and highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari called for water conservation to become a mass movement in Vidarbha, stressing that improved water management is key to addressing agrarian distress and ensuring long-term prosperity in the region.

Speaking ahead of the “Jalsamvad” and “Jalkranti” conferences in Nagpur, Gadkari highlighted ongoing initiatives such as river and stream deepening, groundwater recharge and farm pond development in water-stressed areas including Warud-Morshi and Katol-Narkhed.

He noted that soil excavated from farm ponds has been utilised in National Highway construction projects, contributing to increased groundwater levels in districts such as Akola, Washim and Buldhana. The Minister also emphasised the importance of modern agricultural practices including drip irrigation, organic farming and the use of artificial intelligence for efficient water management.

The two-day conferences organised by Poorti Sinchan Samruddhi Kalyankari Sanstha will focus on water conservation, groundwater recharge and sustainable irrigation solutions aimed at improving agricultural resilience and reducing farmer distress in Vidarbha.
