PM Modi Launches Rs 17,900 Crore Infra Development Projects in Andhra Pradesh
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the projects would accelerate the state's Swarna Andhra vision and contribute to India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Bhogapuram Airport Named After Alluri Sitarama Raju
The Prime Minister inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, naming the facility after the legendary freedom fighter.
He described the airport as a major growth engine for North Andhra that would improve connectivity, promote tourism, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
Highlighting India's aviation growth, he said the number of operational airports has increased from 74 in 2014 to 166, while the UDAN scheme has expanded affordable air connectivity to smaller cities. He also announced the launch of UDAN 2.0, backed by an investment of ₹29,000 crore.
Multi-Modal Connectivity Push
The Prime Minister said Andhra Pradesh is witnessing rapid infrastructure development through investments in ports, highways and railways.
He highlighted the development of ports including Visakhapatnam, Krishnapatnam, Mulapeta and Ramayapatnam, alongside highway projects such as the Visakhapatnam–Raipur Expressway, to strengthen the state's role as a coastal economic hub.
Railway projects worth around ₹1 lakh crore are currently under implementation in the state, including network electrification and the redevelopment of more than 70 railway stations.
He added that these projects, integrated under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, would improve logistics efficiency, reduce transportation costs and benefit both industries and farmers.
Focus on Semiconductors and Manufacturing
The Prime Minister said Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a major destination for advanced manufacturing and technology investments.
He highlighted the foundation of a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, describing it as a significant step towards building a future-ready technology ecosystem and creating high-skilled employment.
He also referred to investments in artificial intelligence, data centres and major global technology companies, stating that Andhra Pradesh is well positioned to become both a software and manufacturing hub.
Pharma and Renewable Energy Investments
The Prime Minister said the Centre is supporting the development of a Pharma Park at Nakkapalli, which will strengthen Andhra Pradesh's pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.
He also noted that Rayalaseema has attracted renewable energy investments exceeding ₹5 lakh crore, reinforcing the state's growing role in India's clean energy transition.
Vision for Visakhapatnam Economic Region
Emphasising long-term economic growth, the Prime Minister said the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) is being developed into one of Asia's leading economic hubs through coordinated investments in infrastructure, manufacturing and logistics.
He added that increased public and private investment would generate employment, boost exports and improve incomes, helping realise the twin visions of Swarna Andhra and Viksit Bharat 2047.
