Varanasi Kashi Ropeway Project Nears Completion
India’s first urban transport ropeway project in Varanasi is nearing completion, with 96% of the work on the Rs 807 crore Kashi Ropeway project finished. Connecting Cantt Railway Station to Godaulia, the project is expected to begin passenger services in December 2026.

Trial runs are currently underway as the project moves towards commissioning. The ropeway is expected to ease traffic congestion in Varanasi and provide a faster transport option for residents, devotees and tourists travelling through the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project on March 24, 2023. Once operational, the ropeway is expected to strengthen urban connectivity and improve access to key areas of the city.
