Haryana clears ₹224 cr elevated rail line

The state government in Haryana has recently given go ahead for the construction of an elevated railway line in Kurukhshetra city on Kurukshetra-Narwana railway line to decongest the traffic in the holy city. The construction work would be undertaken by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) at an investment of ₹224.58 crore. Out of the total project cost, an amount of ₹100 crore is to be shared by Ministry of Railways, said an official spokesman, adding that the newest rail project would be the second elevated railway line in the state since this government took over as it has already launched the country's first elevated railway track project over the Rohtak-Gohana-Panipat section of the railway track in Rohtak city at a cost of ₹315.71 crore. The construction of elevated railway line in Kurukshetra would not only decongest the traffic but also help saving of time and fuel of public due to removal of level crossings. He said the platform at Thanesar Halt Station would be provided at raised level like metro station. The total length of the project would be 5.18 kms with 4.511 kms of elevated track. With the commissioning of this project, five level crossings would be closed permanently, resulting in saving of man, power and maintenance cost.
