Gujarat Cabinet Clears Rs 2,630 Cr Ahmedabad–Mehsana Highway Eight-Laning Project

Gujarat-CM
The Gujarat cabinet has approved a proposal to widen the 51 km Ahmedabad–Mehsana highway into an eight-lane corridor, upgrading the existing four-lane stretch to ease congestion and improve regional connectivity. The project, estimated to cost Rs 2,630 crore, will include 7-metre-wide service roads on both sides and is expected to be completed within two years after the tendering process.

The Ahmedabad–Mehsana highway currently handles daily traffic of over one lakh vehicles, resulting in frequent congestion. Once completed, the travel time between Ahmedabad and Mehsana is expected to reduce to 45–50 minutes from the current 60 minutes. The project scope includes an elevated corridor, eight flyovers and eight underpasses.

To decongest Kalol city, a 6.1 km elevated corridor will be constructed, linking five overbridges and flyovers to allow uninterrupted highway traffic without affecting local movement. All existing overbridges and flyovers will be widened to eight lanes, while new structures will also be built to eight-lane standards. Underpasses will be developed at eight locations, including Shertha, IFFCO Kalol, Kalol city, Chhatral, Nandasan and Ganeshpura, further improving traffic flow and safety along the corridor.
