Govt. steers clears Rs.40k-cr road infra

In its quest to make north-east a gateway of Southeast Asia, the government at present has initiated major road infrastructure projects in the seven states of the region, entailing an investment of Rs.40,000 crore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, elaborating that the government has to make the north-east as one of the best regions across the globe. The major thrust would be to improve connectivity and develop the entire region for tourism purposes. Apart from improving the road infrastructure in the region, 19 big railway projects have also been started in the region and initiatives are on improving the electricity situation in the north-east and trying to bring even more tourists to the region from the global tourism arena. Announcing that the north-east would soon be connected with UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagarik) scheme, he said small airports will also be developed in the region, while the extension of the runway at Shillong airport has been approved and work will start shortly.
