Smart Cities Mission surpasses ₹1.71 lakh-cr in Work Orders
The Smart Cities Mission, initiated by the Central government in 2015, has issued work orders totaling ₹1.71 lakh crore for 7,959 projects. MoS for Housing and Urban Affairs revealed that 6,271 projects, amounting to ₹1.16 lakh crore, have already been successfully implemented in 100 selected cities. The government released ₹78.749.88 crore, of which ₹71,135.70 crore have been utilized. The mission aims to enhance infrastructure, quality of life, and environmental sustainability through smart solutions. Implementation is overseen by Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) at the city level and State Level High Powered Steering Committees (HPSC) at the state level, with national monitoring by an Apex Committee headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
