L&T Dispatches 8th Steam Generator for India's Expanding Nuclear Power Programme

Larsen & Toubro
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has dispatched the eighth steam generator for India's fleet of 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs), delivering the critical nuclear equipment three months ahead of the contractual schedule.

The steam generator was manufactured at L&T's Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat. It is a critical component of a nuclear power plant, transferring heat from the reactor's primary coolant system to produce steam for electricity generation.

The early dispatch reflects L&T's focus on safety, quality and timely execution as India expands its domestic nuclear power capacity.

The milestone comes as the country seeks to increase nuclear energy generation to strengthen energy security, support industrial growth and meet the rising electricity requirements of data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Nuclear power is also expected to contribute to India's long-term decarbonisation goals.

The dispatch highlights the capabilities of India's domestic nuclear manufacturing ecosystem in supplying critical equipment for the country's civil nuclear power programme. Timely delivery of such components is important for supporting the construction and commissioning schedules of new nuclear power plants.

Anil V Parab, Whole-Time Director & Senior EVP - Manufacturing, L&T, said, "L&T continues to set industry benchmarks. The dispatch of all eight Steam Generators ahead of contractual delivery schedules underscores our unwavering commitment to nuclear safety and manufacturing excellence. It stands as a testament to our engineering capability to fast-track India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of scaling nuclear power generation to 100 GWe. We remain committed to the long-term partnership with NPCIL in accelerating India's transition to clean energy”.
