India–Saudi Arabia electrical interconnection
India and Saudi Arabia have reviewed progress on the proposed India–Saudi Arabia electrical interconnection initiative and explored opportunities to expand cooperation across the power sector.

Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, held a virtual bilateral meeting with Nasser Al-Qahtani, Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to discuss the initiative and identify areas for further collaboration.

The discussions focused on the progress of the proposed electrical interconnection, which is expected to deepen bilateral energy cooperation. Both sides exchanged views on the way forward and emphasised the importance of continued engagement to advance the initiative.

The two countries also explored broader cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including technical collaboration, knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices.

The Saudi Arabian side expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission systems, addressing technical and operational challenges arising from the growing share of renewable energy in power grids, and developing strategies to accommodate increasing electricity demand from data centres. Discussions also covered updating grid codes to meet evolving power system requirements.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue and continued engagement to deepen India–Saudi Arabia cooperation in the power sector.
