The Ministry of Coal has invited applications under the Rs. 37,500 crore Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects to boost domestic coal gasification, reduce import dependence and strengthen India's energy and chemical sectors.

The scheme, approved by the Government on 13 May 2026, aims to promote value addition through surface coal and lignite gasification while supporting the country's self-reliance goals. The scheme guidelines were issued on 25 June 2026, followed by the release of the Request for Proposal (RFP) on 7 July 2026.

To facilitate stakeholder participation, the Ministry will organise a pre-application conference on 20 July 2026 to clarify the scheme provisions and application process. Interested applicants are encouraged to participate and seek clarifications before submitting proposals.

The last date for submission of applications is 7 September 2026. The Ministry has made the scheme guidelines, RFP and application timeline available on its official website.
