The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, reviewed the progress of the Yamuna Boat Tourism and Ferry Infrastructure Development Project. The initiative aims to launch recreational boat cruises and ferry services on the River Yamuna, creating a new green tourism experience for residents and visitors in Delhi.

Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore, the project is located upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage, covering a 6–7 km round-trip corridor between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. The initiative will enhance connectivity, eco-friendly urban transport, and leisure tourism along the river, while also supporting the government’s efforts to revive inland waterways for sustainable mobility.

The River Yamuna, designated as National Waterway 110 (NW-110), stretches 1,080 km from Delhi’s Jagatpur to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Under the project, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways plans to develop essential ferry and cruise infrastructure to promote inland water transport and short-distance tourism in the national capital region.

The Yamuna Boat Tourism Project is expected to significantly boost Delhi’s tourism appeal, offering citizens a scenic, low-emission travel option and transforming the riverfront into a vibrant recreational corridor.
